THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV is a tag team focused fighting game from the iconic KOF series that started in 1994 developed by the SNK CORPORATION after the mysterious entity known as verse destroyed the iconic KOF arena and quelled by the brave efforts of the winning challengers, time passes and the king of fighter’s tournament starts again in a new location backed by a new sponsor. Chizuru Kagura senses someone interfering with Orochi’s seal so she teams up with, Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami to join the tournament and investigate the truth behind her visions. Fighters from all over the world join the tournament, even the ones that were once previously believed dead (revived the defeat of Verse) join the fray.

• A total of 39 characters will be available at launch, the most extensive starting roster for the series yet THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV is shaping up to be the definitive way to experience the series in terms of graphics, systems, and online experience.

The King of Fighters XV is a game deserving of its title. It feels like the perfect evolution in a long-running fighting game franchise and isn’t afraid of being what its main fans want it to be. Mechanics aren’t watered down and it doesn’t backtrack on what makes the series so great. That makes for a perfect entry for all types of players. However, there is a severe lack of content, a curse that’s been plaguing fighting games for a very long time that sadly makes an appearance here.

Playing KoF 15, I recall one of my favorite memories – one where I spent multiple hours playing fighting games at an arcade during a trip to Japan. By staying true to that identity as an arcade fighter and focusing on what it is are good at, rather than making sweeping changes in the hope of appealing to crowds other than the communities that have risen around these games for decades, SNK has created a game that reminded me of the quality that can be found in a simple, honest fighting game without too many bells and whistles.
