GAME FREAK Inc. (GF) is the renowned Japanese development team behind the Pokémon series. A development team officially founded in 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri along with Ken Sugimori. A team known primarily for the Pokémon series, but since the release of Red and Green in Japan, they’ve also tried to introduce different kinds of games. Starting with Click Medic in 1999 on PS1, and notably from 2015 with Tembo the Badass Elephant as a multiplatform title.

But without capturing the global Pokémon phenomenon. Some games had original ideas but weren’t particularly polished. Now with the new Beast of Reincarnation (BoR), they are presenting the most ambitious title outside of Pokémon’s franchise, as a more mature action RPG. Beast of Reincarnation – The Official Announcement of Game Freak’s New Game

Among the participants in the Xbox Game Showcase on June 8, 2025, Game Freak surprised everyone with their announcement. The well-known development team amazed fans with their new project Beast of Reincarnation, an action RPG set to be published by Fictions.

With this new ambitious project shown in the first Reveal Trailer, we’re transported into a post-apocalyptic Japan where we play as a young girl and her dog companion, on a quest to find the creature known as Beast of Reincarnation. To end the cycle of ruin and corruption that has ravaged the land. The launch is scheduled for 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam, Xbox)

Beast of Reincarnation: What We Know So Far

Beast of Reincarnation has certainly captured a lot of attention. With a style that’s quite unusual for Game Freak, offering modern graphics and a more mature storyline. Set in the year 4026, in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity awaits its end. As we follow Emma, the protagonist, along with her dog Koo.

The gameplay is action-packed with a soul-like style, testing us against various creatures that roam this devastated Japan. A journey that promises not just action, but also emotions. Where Emma will discover what it means to be human in this world, especially with the mysterious power she hides, which led her to be marginalized. Also, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass on its launch in 2026.

In Conclusion

A game with a graphic style and theme certainly unexpected from the GF team. With a very ambitious project that could finally become their first major success outside of Pokémon.
