Nintendo is still knee-deep in its lawsuit against Pocketpair, the developers of Palworld, for alleged copyright and patent infringement involving multiple patents held by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. And yet, here we are with a new twist to the saga: a blatant rip-off of the rip-off.
Enter Palland, a game so suspiciously similar to Palworld that it feels almost comical especially because it’s available right now on the Nintendo eShop. On paper, that description could apply to dozens of survival games, but the real giveaway is in the key art and gameplay presentation. From its bright, cartoonish environments to its creature designs, Palland mirrors Palworld’s aesthetic so closely that it mirrors Pokémon too. While Palworld at least tried to market itself with the tagline “Pokémon with guns,” Palland feels more like an unfiltered copy, the kind of mimicry comparable to how Horizon Zero Dawn and the much-mocked Light of Motiram share a suspicious resemblance.
Nintendo’s legal battle with Pocketpair is ongoing, which might explain why Palland has managed to sneak onto the eShop without consequence. It’s possible the game’s lack of commercial buzz has kept it under Nintendo’s enforcement radar too. Whether that changes depends on how the game performs in the market.
For now, it’s discounted from $9.99 to $3.99 until August 14, 2025, a move that could spark more attention. If Palland does manage to gain traction, Nintendo may have no choice but to step in, turning this odd case of a “rip-off of a rip-off” into the next chapter in an already bizarre legal story.
