Gothic Remake has been dragging out with delays and mixed reactions to what we’ve seen so far, and even though the demo has been updated based on player feedback and the team says they’re trying to balance the old vibe with modern systems, it mostly feels like people are still waiting to see if it really lives up to the original when it finally lands in 2026 rather than celebrating anything yet.
This is a major update of the excellent medieval RPG that was first released in 2001. The map is bigger, the quests more in-depth, the lore (particularly about the orcs) has been expanded, the AI, menus and gameplay have been improved... the open world will be more interactive and lively. And all of this is powered by Unreal Engine 5. In other words, we could have an amazing role-playing game (RPG) if all the promises are kept. It will be released nearly 25 years after a true classic!
I played the original Gothic 20 years ago, and I have very fond memories of it. It was incredible how the world felt alive with all NPCs doing their lives, without any loading screens and how you moved from a useless nobody to the best guy in the colony. So I’m craving to replay it with nowadays graphics and QoL features, because yes, combat was over complicated even at the original release but I hope that with the remake many more people will enjoy Gothic’s awesome universe
Believe me or not, but I haven't played Gothic before, even though it got my interest back in days. But the upcoming Gothic Remake looks to be a great opportunity to become familiar with the series. Not only the game will feature modern graphics, but the dialogs will be recorded anew. The world will also be a lot larger, with arena fights and better combat mechanics. Sounds great, hopefully the game will be released in 2024.
