Most of the games we’ve selected are based on “character survival”. These are games like Don’t Starve, and Ark Survival Evolved where you’ll have to hunt, feed yourself, and build a camp so you do not succumb to the cold, die of hunger or get attacked by predators.  

Some games combine horror and survival in one  like DayZ, Dying Light, The Forest, and many others. In order to survive, you will need to arm yourself with ammunition, medical kit, and other equipment.

 

In most cases, games like Far Cry Primal allow you to put up a base, or join one as in the case of Far Cry 3. Other games, on the other hand, allow you to build your own base wherever and whenever you want.

 

In the case of freebuilding, games such as 7 Days to Die, Ark Survival Evolved, Don’t Starve, or RUST give you the ability to construct a secure base by building boards and stone walls, setting up traps, and more. A real secure base will shelter you from monsters and other nocturnal predators ;).

 

What do these games have in common?

Unlike Far Cry Primal some of these games are free, which means they do not require quests and missions in order to progress into the game. Ark Survival Evolved, for example, requires players to gain experience by harvesting, or crafting objects just like RUST or Don’t Starve.

 

Other games, like I Am Alive, Tomb Raider, or Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag follow a story without any real freedom in terms of gameplay.

 

Far Cry Primal is a mix between these two types of games. You will not only be able to complete missions and evolve in the main plot or the quest annex, but also go hunting, or simply freely roam on the island and set aside the main objectives.
