Console exclusive titles were long one of the main reasons to buy a specific console, especially PlayStation. Many of these games are masterpieces and set new standards for storytelling, graphics, and single player experiences. However, for many years these titles were unreachable for PC players. Sony in particular released many high quality story driven games.

Console Exclusives on PC

In recent years, the strategy of Sony and PlayStation has changed significantly. Many PlayStation exclusives now release on PC after a year or more with improved technical features such as higher framerates, ultrawide support, and expanded graphics options. Because of this, PC players can now experience some of the best single player games of the last generation that were previously only available on console. Here are the Top 5 console exclusives now available on PC.

#1: Ghost of Tsushima – Samurai adventure in feudal Japan

The list begins with Ghost of Tsushima by Sucker Punch, which originally released in 2020 for PS4. The game takes place during the Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274 on the island of Tsushima. You play as Jin Sakai, a samurai who must break traditional rules to save his homeland. The game offers a mix of samurai combat, stealth gameplay, and open world exploration. Ghost of Tsushima is especially known for its cinematic presentation, the wind navigation system, and the Kurosawa film style.

The PC version released in 2024 as the Director’s Cut and includes the Iki Island expansion as well as the Legends co op mode. This version adds technical improvements such as ultrawide support, higher framerates, DLSS, and improved graphics options. The game is considered one of the most atmospheric open world titles of the last few years. The combat system, art design, and minimalistic user interface received particular praise.

#2: The Last of Us – One of the most emotional stories in gaming

Next is a game from 2013. Developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us originally released for the PS3. The story takes place after a zombie apocalypse and follows Joel and Ellie as they travel through a destroyed America. The world has been devastated by a fungal virus that turns humans into aggressive creatures. The focus is on storytelling, character development, and moral decisions.

The PC version is based on The Last of Us Part I remake, which released in 2022 for the PS5. This remake features completely rebuilt graphics, animations, AI, and gameplay systems. On PC the game also supports modern graphical features. The story is still considered one of the best narrative experiences in video games. The game also gained huge popularity again thanks to the successful HBO series.

#3: Horizon Zero Dawn – A world full of machines

Horizon Zero Dawn is an open world RPG by Guerrilla Games that originally released in 2017. You play as Aloy, a hunter in a post apocalyptic world filled with machines. Humans live in different tribes across the Earth while much of the land is populated by dangerous machines. Aloy mainly fights using her bow, but she also uses traps that she can craft herself. This creates tactical battles against machines, along with different arrow types such as fire arrows that are more effective against certain robots.

The PC version released in 2020 as the Complete Edition including the expansion The Frozen Wilds. Today the game is mainly available as a Remastered Edition. On PC the game supports ultrawide resolutions, higher framerates, and improved graphics options. The game received strong praise for its worldbuilding, lore, and innovative enemy design. Horizon quickly became one of PlayStation’s most important new franchises and is now also very popular on PC.

#4: Marvel’s Spider Man – Superhero action in New York

Marvel’s Spider Man was developed by Insomniac Games and released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4. You swing through a detailed version of New York City as Peter Parker. The gameplay combines free swinging movement, acrobatic combat, and gadgets. The story features a more experienced Spider Man who has already been active as a hero for several years, meaning he does not have to learn everything from the beginning.

The Remastered version released on PC in 2022. It includes additional suits, improved graphics, and ray tracing options. The traversal system, especially swinging through the city, is considered one of the best movement systems in PlayStation games. The story, characters, and dynamic combat system received particular praise.

#5: God of War – Kratos’ new beginning in Norse mythology

Finally we arrive at the soft reboot series by Santa Monica Studio, which originally released in 2018. The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus on a journey through Norse mythology. The game focuses much more on character development and emotional storytelling than the earlier entries in the series. Kratos fights with his axe, abilities, and the game includes leveling systems with RPG elements.

The PC version released in 2022 and was praised for its technical quality. This version supports 4K resolution, high framerates, DLSS, and ultrawide displays. The dynamic relationship between Kratos and Atreus is one of the strongest narrative elements of the game.
