Krafton prepares to expand the PUBG universe with Black Budget, a new extraction shooter with an Alpha test this December
Krafton officially unveils PUBG: Black Budget, a new extraction shooter aiming to shake up the genre. First PC alpha tests arrive in December with a focus on exploration, PvPvE tension and a mysterious time-loop island.
PUBG: Black Budget Revealed
Krafton isn’t slowing down. After turning PUBG into a global phenomenon, the studio now aims to conquer the still-growing extraction-shooter genre. Its next title, PUBG: Black Budget, is officially heading into its first PC alpha phase
A decisive step for a project designed to push the boundaries of Playerunknown’s Battleground, once again beyond traditional battle royale gameplay. Siding together the upcoming strategy top-down shooter Blindspot.
A New Contender in the Extraction-Shooter Arena
Krafton confirms that PUBG: Black Budget will make its public debut on PC this December, offering a first-person extraction experience built on exploration, survival and high-risk combat.
The alpha test will be available to players across North America, Europe, and Asia via Steam, with support for English, Korean, Russian and Chinese. As expected, player feedback during this early phase will help shape the remaining development.
What Makes Black Budget Different?
According to Krafton, the game wants to stand out by focusing as much on discovery as on combat. Players will set foot on Coli, a mysterious island trapped in a time loop and distorted by a supernatural force known as the Anomaly. The challenge will be to survive against PvPvE threats, recover classified technology and uncover the truth behind Project SAPIENS.
While its premise isn’t entirely groundbreaking, Krafton’s track record in reinventing shooter trends makes Black Budget hard to ignore. PUBG reshaped the multiplayer landscape eight years ago, and the publisher seems determined to do it again in a genre still seeking its flagship titles.
Alpha Test Schedule and What Players Need to Know
Registration is open directly through the game’s Steam page. Even if players aren’t selected, they won’t be left in the dark — Krafton confirms that no NDA will be enforced, meaning testers will be free to stream, record and share gameplay throughout the entire test period. The first closed alpha on Steam will unfold across two sessions:
- December 12–14
- December 19–21
Ahead of the alpha, Krafton released the first official screenshots along with additional details extracted from the Steam listing, offering a preview of the island, enemies and extraction-focused progression loop that define Black Budget’s identity.

PUBG: Black Budget is stepping into a highly competitive genre, but Krafton’s ambition and experience give it a real chance to stand out.
