Yesterday brought a major new announcement from Krafton. Krafton is best known for its PUBG franchise, which already revealed a new 5v5 shooter earlier this year. Now they have also announced an extraction shooter called PUBG: Black Budget. Here is everything you need to know.
The concept behind PUBG: Black Budget
PUBG: Black Budget is an extraction shooter, meaning you enter the map, loot gear and resources, and must extract before the match ends — otherwise you lose everything. The game focuses on tension, survival, and the unknown. You join a covert operation and explore the secrets of a mysterious island trapped in a time loop. You will fight against other players and AI enemies, and everything can be deadly. Black Budget features top secret technology and a 2.5 × 2.5 km map. Outside the map you have a secure inventory, and up to 45 players can be in a session.
PUBG: Black Budget gameplay, mechanics, and progression
PUBG: Black Budget is designed as a first person shooter, though a third person mode may be added later. You play as a veteran sent to the island to retrieve top secret technology. Because of the time loops, there are researches and anomalies you will need to deal with. The map is large with plenty to discover, and with 30 minute sessions you have enough time to loot and extract. If you die, you lose everything you brought with you.

You can play in squads of up to three players, and matchmaking considers player level and squad size. In Black Budget you encounter both players and hostile PvE enemies. An anomaly gradually shrinks the playable area, which leads to more encounters and increases the tension. The higher your player level and the longer you stay on the island, the harder your run becomes.
There are three rival organizations in PUBG: Black Budget. Each gives missions and rewards. A loyalty and reputation system offers even more rewards. You can upgrade your character with new skills, proficiencies, and an upgrade system that helps you survive longer on the island. After you extract, you return to your base, which you can upgrade further with crafting stations, storage upgrades, and facilities that generate money for you.
You can also build a research station in your base, allowing further progression. Your weapons and equipment can be heavily customized, and some items are exclusive to factions. Healing items help you survive longer and improve overall performance.
Development status and alpha test
PUBG: Black Budget is currently in its alpha version and still in development. But players will soon get the first chance to test it. In December 2025, a closed alpha test will take place on Steam for PC players in North America, Europe, and Asia. The closed alpha will be held across two weekends: the first from December 12 to December 14, and the second from December 19 to December 21. The alpha version will only support first person mode.
If you want to join the test, you can register on the PUBG: Black Budget Steam page. With a bit of luck, Steam will send you an email if you are selected. You can also earn keys for the alpha through Twitch Drops.

A good way to make a sequel to PUBG by revisiting the formula; extraction FPS games are more popular than battle royales now, I would say.
