We thought Agent 47 was off to a long retirement to make way for James Bond, but IO Interactive has decided otherwise. The studio’s CEO has just unofficially confirmed the development of a new Hitman, while teasing a brand-new cooperative mode for next year.
IO Interactive: Agent 47 Hasn’t Said His Last Word
Since the conclusion of the World of Assassination trilogy, radio silence has surrounded our favorite bald assassin, leaving the spotlight entirely on the upcoming 007: First Light project.
Fortunately, Hakan Abrak, the boss of IO Interactive, took advantage of an interview with Variety to break the ice and reassure the community.
While the studio is in full promotion mode for 007 First Light , its James Bond game (expected for March 2026), Abrak was very clear about the future of his historic franchise.
“There is definitely a new Hitman coming,” he stated plainly.
It’s a declaration that brings relief, especially knowing that the 007 project is the only external IP the studio is currently working on. Hitman remains IOI’s flagship IP, and they intend to pamper it.
A Brand New Co-op Mode for World of Assassination
Before talking about a full-fledged “Hitman 4,” the developers have a tactical surprise up their sleeves. The World of Assassination universe is set to expand starting next year.
Hakan Abrak teased the arrival of a feature highly anticipated by fans of duo strategy.
“Next year, you will have more information regarding the co-op mode for Hitman,” explains the CEO.
He describes this addition as an “excellent extension of the universe,” promising new mechanics and interesting tactical combinations.
- New strategies: The two-player approach could totally change the game’s meta.
- Content expansion: This mode will enrich the existing platform rather than dividing the community.
Hitman World of Assassination: Eminem Joins the Target List
While waiting for these major updates, IO Interactive continues to surprise with unexpected collaborations. After Conor McGregor, it’s a rap legend’s turn to make an appearance in Hitman.
The studio has confirmed Eminem’s presence in a special mission scheduled for late 2025. It’s a smart marketing move that keeps the game alive and attracts a broader audience.
IO Interactive is skillfully playing on two fronts: immediate event content to keep players busy, and the promise of a major future installment to reassure the purists.

In Conclusion
The future of virtual assassination looks bright. Between the imminent arrival of Eminem, a co–op mode promising to renew gameplay in 2026, and the confirmation of a future episode, Agent 47 still has good days ahead of him.

Kinda surprising to see Hitman back on the table, especially with a co-op mode. Hard to imagine how that fits without messing with the usual pacing, but we’ll see. The Eminem cameo feels like pure marketing, nothing more. Interesting updates overall, but nothing that really says what direction the series is actually taking yet.
