Gears of War: Reloaded beta starts this weekend! Here’s how to access it on Xbox, PS5, Steam, and who qualifies for early access.

One of the most exciting reveals from the recently concluded Xbox Games Showcase was the surprise demo announcement for Gears of War: Reloaded. While the game won’t officially launch until August 26th, fans won’t have to wait that long to jump into the action.

A playable beta is just around the corner and it’s not locked to one platform. That’s right, players across Xbox, Steam, and even PlayStation 5 will all get a taste of the next big Gears experience starting this weekend.

 

Gears Of War Reloaded Beta: How To Access

It’s been six years since the last Gears game dropped and the wait has been tough. But that ends this weekend. The Gears of War Reloaded Beta is here to give fans an early look and it comes in not just one, but two weekend test windows starting June 13–15 and June 20–22. Each beta session will go live at 7PM UTC / 12PM PST on the start date and close at the same time the next day.

So, how do you actually access the beta? There are three ways to qualify:

  • Preorder Gears of War: Reloaded digitally for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, or PlayStation 5.
  • Be an active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscriber.
  • Own a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition but your ownership must have been registered before May 5, 2025 at 4PM UTC / 9PM PST.

If you bought the physical copy of Ultimate Edition, unfortunately, that won’t grant beta access. Digital is the only route in this case.

For eligible players, the beta is already available for pre-install. That said, some are reporting that it doesn’t show up in the store, and that’s true. If you qualify, searching it manually won’t do. Instead, head to your full library, go into Game Pass (if you’re subscribed), and scroll to the “G” section. There, you’ll see a full Gears row. Move to the right and the Reloaded Beta should be listed.

For PlayStation 5 and Steam players, once you’ve preordered the game, go to the main game page and the beta download link should appear there.

   

And while it may seem like digital buyers are getting all the perks, there’s still something in it for physical edition fans. Anyone who preorders the game digital or physical (or subscribes to Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass) will receive the Adam Fenix and Anya Stroud character skins as preorder bonuses.

As for Ultimate Edition owners, these skins were preorder bonuses before. But those who missed out during that run, you will also receive these skins once Xbox messages you for the free Reload upgrade. Now the big question it, do you get to keep all your weapon skins from Ultimate once you upgrade?
