Avowed is the first-person open-world RPG from the Obsidian Entertainment team. A development team owned by Xbox, which has delivered many beloved games over the years. With Avowed, they bring the Pillars of Eternity universe into a new fantasy adventure.
A game that takes us to the mysterious island of the Living Lands, full of dangers and mysteries. As an emissary of Aedyr, we’ll investigate the mysterious plague spreading chaos on the island. The game launched on February 18, 2025 on Xbox Series X/S and PC with positive initial feedback. Avowed gets an upgrade with Update 1.4: Here’s what’s new
Three months after the release of Avowed, the Obsidian Entertainment team continues to update and enhance the game experience. With lots of additions and improvements, the new Update 1.4, available since May 15, brings some improvements to the experience, offering:
- Improved Exploration: Removal of the Fog of War from the map once the area is explored. Enhanced exploration radius and area reveal when entering respective cities.
- Creature Loot Drop and Party Camp: Creatures can now be defeated with drop chances. Additionally, we can use the Party Camp option to fast-forward time.
- Arachnophobia and New Settings: New feature replaces spiders with floating spheres. Plus, the option to display chests on the minimap and remove the enhanced bow attack.
But also further additions like balancing various enchantments and abilities. With an improvement of the interface and the gameplay. Accompanied by some PC additions like Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation (RTX series 40 and 50). And the return of AMD FSR 3 among the upscaling options.

Avowed: Obsidian announces the 2025 Roadmap
Along with the new Avowed 1.4 Update, the Obsidian team has shared some important information and announcements. They are working on a Korean and Japanese localization and are also improving the French. This comes alongside the reveal of the 2025 Roadmap sharing:
Summer
- New Unique Weapons and Armor
- New Active and Passive Skills
- Improved Crafting and Cooking
- Map Markers Added
- New NPC Skills and Behaviors
Autumn
- New Game Plus Added
- New Weapon Type
- Godlike Features and Character Presets Added
- Photo Mode and Appearance Change Options
Certainly some interesting additions, especially the much-awaited New Game Plus requested by fans. Plus, further customization with new presets and godlike features for your character.
