Sega Confirms 4 Major Games Coming Soon – Is Sonic One of Them?
Thursday’s State of Play came and went without a single update from Sega. It was a bit surprising, especially given the rumors swirling beforehand about a potential Sonic reveal.
But while the screen remained dark, the company’s latest financial report paints a much brighter picture. In their Q3 earnings release, Sega confirmed plans to launch “four major new titles for mainstay IPs” during the next fiscal year. That period runs from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
This isn’t just a vague promise of future content. It’s a concrete roadmap indicating that their biggest franchises are about to get busy.
The Sonic Connection
It’s difficult to imagine a “major” Sega lineup that doesn’t include their mascot. It has been nearly four years since Sonic Frontiers launched, which is a long gap for the series. We also know the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie is slated for March 2027.
Sega loves synergy. Releasing a flagship 3D Sonic title alongside a blockbuster film makes perfect business sense. Whether it’s a direct sequel to Frontiers or something entirely new, the timing lines up too well to ignore.

Expanding the RPG and Strategy Front
Beyond the blue blur, the definition of “mainstay IP” heavily points toward Atlus. The rumors surrounding Persona 4 Revival have been persistent. A remake of the beloved RPG would certainly qualify as a major release.
On the strategy side, Creative Assembly has been working on Total War: Warhammer 40,000. The game has already surpassed a million wishlists, showing there is a massive audience waiting for it.
While Stranger Than Heaven is also in the pipeline, it’s a new IP. It’s less likely to be counted among the “mainstay” franchises mentioned in this specific target.
What About the Classics?
We also can’t forget the ambitious revival projects announced previously. Sega has confirmed development on new entries for Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. The question is whether Sega views these as “major new titles” in the same breath as Sonic or Yakuza.
A big-budget reboot of Crazy Taxi or Virtua Fighter could easily take one of those four slots. It depends entirely on the scale of these productions.
SEGA Heavy Hitters are Coming
Regardless of the specific titles, the strategy is clear. Sega is leaning on its strongest brands to drive growth over the next twelve months. They are looking to maximize sales by pairing these game launches with their broader media push in film and TV.
The silence at State of Play might have been disappointing at the moment, but it looks like Sega is simply saving its ammunition for a very crowded year.
