Finally, we have a release date for the first and last story DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. Phantom Liberty is scheduled to be released on September 26th this year. Additionally, the major 1.7 update will also be released.
Unfortunately, the DLC will not be available for all Cyberpunk players. Players with older consoles such as PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will miss out as the DLC will only be available for the new console generation.
The Phantom Liberty DLC introduces a brand new area called Dogtown, located behind the towering walls of the Combat Zone, forming its own city.
CD Projekt Red, the developers of Cyberpunk, have announced that Phantom Liberty is their largest add-on to date. They promise attention to detail, a comprehensive story, new characters, and much more. Let’s dive into the story.
Due to a hacker attack, the President of NUSA crashes with his helicopter in the dangerous district of Dogtown, controlled by the Barghest faction.
The group is led by Kurt Hansen, who suspects that Songbird, a mysterious Netrunner, is responsible for the President’s crash. But now, it’s your turn to prove Songbird’s innocence by rescuing the President from this perilous district. In this mission, you will work together with FIA agent Solomon Reed, much to the discontent of Johnny Silverhand, portrayed by Keanu Reeves.
The estimated playtime for Phantom Liberty has not been officially announced yet, but it is believed to be around 15 hours.
With the new area, eight new skills called Relic Skills are introduced, bringing more powerful abilities to the game. These new skills will have their own skill tree and will have only a minor impact on the existing skills.
The open world throughout the city will be improved with the new DLC. Similar to many other games, random dynamic events like gang fights will occur, with the police intervening. You can choose to get involved in the fights if you’re interested or simply pass by.
If you disturb the peace in Night City and cause chaos, similar to GTA, your wanted level will rise, determining the strength of your pursuers. There are five levels, and the police will become increasingly aggressive as you progress.
In the story missions, the chases will be dynamically executed rather than predetermined, aiming to provide a more realistic gaming experience.
Weapons and armor in Cyberpunk 2077 have been extensively revised in Patch 1.7, which accompanies the Phantom Liberty DLC. There will be five different types of weapons, specializing in attack speed, damage, reload speed, range, or handling.
Armor will also be extensively adjusted, providing small perks that can reduce incoming damage while allowing you to deal more damage through specific perks, for example.
The combat system will also be adjusted with the new update. One of the most controversial new features is the inclusion of stamina, which will be required for all actions during combat, including shooting. However, the new skills will offer new possibilities to play the game and win battles.
The DLC runs parallel to the main game, allowing you to dynamically switch between DLC and non-DLC content. However, the decisions made in Phantom Liberty will have an impact on the world of Night City.
If you’re concerned about losing your progress when purchasing the DLC, don’t worry. You can keep your saved game and still explore the DLC content.
