Grand Theft Auto 6 is due to launch on consoles in May 2026, and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has said he believes Rockstar’s upcoming, highly anticipated open-world action game will not be delayed again.

GTA 6 was initially planned to launch in Fall 2025, but Rockstar Games delayed its release until May 26, 2026, to give the team more time to polish the game. It will now land on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC release at a later date.
Speaking to CNBC on Monday, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed his confidence that Rockstar can meet expectations and launch the game on the new release date.
What the CEO Said About GTA 6’s Release
In his latest interview, Zelnick said his level of “conviction is very, very high” when asked how confident he is of GTA 6 not being delayed again.
Zelnick also reassured fans who may be concerned that the game won’t be a hit at launch, stating that “Rockstar’s whole stock in trade is to have these extraordinary expectations, and still to beat them.” He believes “it’s going to be an amazing game,” and as for the rest, seemingly financially, “we’ll see in the future.”
Why Fans Are Concerned About Delays
It’s been 12 years since the last Grand Theft Auto entry, with GTA V launching in 2013. Rockstar is known for their meticulous approach to game development, with other franchises in their catalogue also receiving long wait times between entries. For instance, Red Dead Redemption launched in 2010, with Red Dead Redemption 2 following in 2018.
While delays can often lead to fan frustration and a drop in hype, Grand Theft Auto 6 is only picking up momentum. The GTA 6 Trailer 1 dropped on December 4, 2023, smashing YouTube records by amassing over 90 million views in its first 24 hours. Trailer 2 landed on May 7, 2025, after Rockstar announced the delay, but that didn’t stop the trailer from reaching over 450 million views across all platforms.
What’s Next for GTA 6
Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A release on PC will occur at a later, unannounced date.
As we approach the release date, eager fans should keep an eye out for more information and official news on Rockstar’s social media channels and at the upcoming Gamescom 2025 and The Game Awards 2025 in December.
Conclusion
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has said he’s very confident of GTA 6 launching on May 26, 2026, for consoles. What do you think Zelnick’s comments? Do you think Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a success at launch? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Rockstar knows the expectations are through the roof for GTA 6 so I believe in them to release the game when they're absolutely certain it's up to standards. The Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series are iconic for their big and detailed open-worlds, so I think GTA 6 will deliver on that aspect. Sadly, I'll have to wait a bit more for the PC release but what's 1 more year after this already long time.
