Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga – Character Trailer and Launch Window
After the surprise announcement at the end of 2024 about the porting of Ys vs. Trails in the Sky, the Falcom team finally shares some news about it. Announcing finally the launch window for Alternative Saga, the crossover fighting game of the two series. Set to launch in Summer 2025.
A modern porting of the chapter that was originally released in 2010 on PSP, by the small team at refint/games. Also accompanying the announcement is the Character Trailer that shows us the playable characters. From the iconic Adol Christin and Estelle Bright, to some memorable characters like Chester and Renne.
Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: What’s New in Alternative Saga
The return of Alternative Saga after over 10 years brings lots of modern updates for Falcom’s title. With the return of the Ys character cast up to YS Seven, and Trails with the trilogy in the Sky (Liberl Arc) and from Zero (Crossbell Arc). So, here’s what we can expect:
- Action-packed Combat: A fast-paced, action-filled combat system with an isometric view inspired by Ys SEVEN.
- Iconic Cast & Voice Acting: A unique cast with support characters from both franchises. Each with their own fighting style and abilities. The game features both new English voice acting and the classic Japanese voice acting.
- Graphical Remaster: A remaster of the graphics adapted for 4K displays, with widescreen 21:9 support.
- New Features and Additions: Many new additions, including online and local multiplayer with rollback netcode. Support for PC controls, and a Material Collection with wallpapers and soundtracks from both series.
The refint/games team confirms the involvement of Studio Pom, the illustrators behind numerous Falcom game artworks. This includes the Steam achievement artworks and possibly new additions to the Material Collection Gallery.

I am always happy to see a game get a global release, and not only that you get a graphical remaster with it. I am glad to see that more and more companies are porting / releasing older games to modern hardware so that more people can experience such classics.
