The world of Ys is getting a definitive refresh and longtime players won’t have to start from scratch. A newly announced upgrade path lets existing owners make the jump to the enhanced edition at a discount, but there are a few important dates and caveats to keep in mind.

Ys X Nordics Special Upgrade Pack to Proud Nordics Announced

Ys X: Nordics is the latest mainline entry in Nihon Falcom’s long-running action RPG franchise. Developed by Nihon Falcom, the game originally launched in Japan in 2023 before making its way West where it quickly built a solid following.

Set across the northern seas, Ys X: Nordics introduced a revamped combat system that allows players to control Adol alongside a partner in dynamic duo-based battles. The game also leaned heavily into naval exploration, with sailing and ship combat playing a central role in progression.

Now, Falcom is expanding on that foundation with Ys X: Proud Nordics, a newly released definitive edition that enhances the original experience. Proud Nordics includes brand-new story content and a range of quality-of-life improvements. There’s also some visual upgrades, and the sailing and shipfaring systems have been adjusted to feel faster, making exploration across the open waters more enjoyable.

Alongside the launch of Proud Nordics, Nihon Falcom confirmed that owners of Ys X: Nordics on Steam will be able to purchase a Special Upgrade Pack to move to the new edition at a 34% discount. This limited-time offer runs from March 6 through August 31 only.

Since the upgrade path itself goes live on March 6, players who opt for the discounted upgrade will not be eligible for the Proud Nordics launch bonuses which expire on March 5.

The announcement was made on Steam and there has been no confirmation yet regarding similar upgrade options for console or GOG.
