Returnal: Action Title Presented In a Gameplay Deep Dive Video

The gameplay deep dive video above shows the first two areas of the game, with the developers explaining some of the lore, weapons, and enemies that you can expect to encounter throughout the game.

WHAT IS RETURNAL?

In Returnal, you play as Selene, a space pilot stranded on the alien planet of Atropos.

The game is a psychological horror, and Selene will face her deepest fears as she journeys towards a mysterious signal.

Every time Selene dies, time loops back to the very moment that her ship crashes, meaning she must again restart her journey.

Every decision you make affects the next, and every run-through offers new challenges and discoveries.

CAN I SAVE RETURNAL?

You can not manually save in Returnal. Instead, the game implements an auto-save feature.

Certain moments and upgrades will result in the game saving your progress. However, it does not save when you pick up a new weapon.

It’s a brutal and challenging game, so don’t expect the game to make it easy for you.

Fortunately, defeating a boss will mean that you can choose not to fight them again. So, not all is lost.

RETURNAL REST MODE PS5

There is, however, a way to return to your game without saving it.

If you need to take a break from the game and don’t want to lose where you’re at, you can pause the game and put your PS5 console into Rest Mode.

Rest Mode is a great PS5 feature and allows you to quickly pick up the last game you played where you left it.

Note: This does mean you will not be able to turn your console off. Doing so would cause you to lose that progress.

HOW LONG IS RETURNAL?

Every run in Returnal can take between 90 minutes to 2 hours, which is a long time when you think there is no save feature in the game.

The game will take multiple runs to complete, and these runs are not easy, with each one containing new choices and threats.

Some review websites completed the game in 20 to 30 hours.
