Business Insider UK was able to get a hold of Brendan Greene, the game’s Creative Director and also known as PlayerUnknown. Business Insider UK mentioned that the game is bizarrely named to which Greene replied, “It’s only called ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ because ‘Battlegrounds’ you can’t get a copyright on. You just can’t. So calling it ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ [makes sense] because it was ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battle Royale’ before that. And it’s all caps because it looks better as all caps. No other reason. I’m not shouting it.”

Greene added, “Yeah it’s a silly name, but f— it!…People are talking about it, that’s the main thing.” The game name is quite a mouthful, and perhaps that is what adds to the game’s charm, aside from the amazing gameplay of course. Players of the game have coined it as PUBG (when typed) and pronounced as “pub-gee” or just “Battlegrounds”. Who would mistake “Battlegrounds” for anything else since it is such a popular game right now! PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available for PC and soon for Xbox One. What about you, dear reader? What do you think of the game’s name? Is it really such a complicated name? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
