Phasmophobia Studio Launches ‘Kinetic Publishing’ to Fund Indie Devs

From a one-man passion project to a genre-defining juggernaut, Phasmophobia proved that solo developers can dominate the charts. Now, creator Daniel Knight (Dknighter) is pivoting that success into a new mission: empowering the next generation of indie horror masterminds through Kinetic Publishing.

Phasmophobia started as a one-man experiment in 2020 and exploded into a 25-million-copy phenomenon. Now, Kinetic Games is pivoting from solo success to industry mentor.

With the official launch of Kinetic Publishing, the studio is opening its doors, and its war chest, to the next generation of indie talent.

Kinetic Publishing: Championing the Indie Spirit

Daniel Knight isn’t just funding games, but he is replicating the support system he wished he had five years ago. The new label explicitly targets small teams and solo developers with a “clear vision” who are 12 to 18 months away from launch.

The strategy is “quality over quantity.” By keeping the slate small, Kinetic ensures every project receives tailored attention rather than getting lost in a corporate portfolio.

Crucially for fans, this expansion does not distract from Phasmophobia. The core development team of 30+ remains locked in on the roadmap to Version 1.0 in 2026. Meanwhile, industry veteran Asim Tanvir joins as Director of Marketing & Partnerships to guide the publishing arm, bringing 15 years of experience from giants like 2K and Konami.

Is Kinetic Publishing a Game Changer?

Kinetic Publishing combines the grit of a solo survivor with the resources of a major studio. They offer financial, legal, and marketing muscle without the predatory tactics of traditional publishers. For the indie scene, this is a massive win.

Does a publisher led by a successful solo developer make you more likely to buy their games?
