The Truth Behind the Leaked Forza Horizon 6 Build
Forza Horizon 6 has suffered a few leaks throughout its journey to launch. In fact, even before the game was officially announced, behind-the-scenes footage had already made its way online. Since then, more details surfaced including the radio playlists, the car list, and eventually the biggest leak so far, a game build.
That unauthorized Forza Horizon 6 build started circulating three days ago. At the time, reports quickly spread claiming the leak happened because of a preload issue. It was suggested that the development team had accidentally pushed the game build onto Steam without encrypting it beforehand. Fueling those claims further was a 155GB update spotted on SteamDB tied to the game’s listing.
However, Playground Games and SteamDB have since taken to X to shut down the “preload issue” narrative. Both parties clarified that the leak was not caused by a preload mistake, but rather by someone intentionally leaking the build. SteamDB also addressed the large update listing, explaining that someone may have used their token dumper tool, which can sometimes expose package-related information publicly.
To further back up their statement, SteamDB also shared a published post from before explaining how Steam preloads actually work, reinforcing the point that the situation described in the earlier reports likely could not have happened the way people assumed.

Even with those clarifications, some players are still skeptical. But more people are starting to believe there may have been an actual breach somewhere along the pipeline, following the recent Subnautica 2 leak as well.
According to a rumor circulating on Reddit, an influencer/reviewer may allegedly be leaking encryption keys of multiple games including Death Stranding 2, Pragmata, LEGO Batman, Forza Horizon 6, and now Subnautica 2. If it’s true, it won’t take long before Playground Games get in the middle of this.
The studio has already started issuing franchise-wide and hardware bans for accounts caught accessing or downloading the illegal build. So unless you want to play Forza Horizon 6 on December 31, 9,999, better not do it.
