Another crossover is on the way for Overwatch and this time, Blizzard is dipping into one of the most stylish action RPGs of the last decade. After weeks of speculation about what the next collab could be, it’s now clear that NieR Automata is stepping into the spotlight just as it approaches its ninth anniversary.
Overwatch x NieR Automata Collaboration Announced
The collaboration quietly appeared in a YouTube Short posted to the official Overwatch channel before being taken down shortly after it went live. But of course, not before screenshots were taken. So while the news is official and out in the open, the announcement was made prematurely.
The crossover launches on March 10 alongside the mid-season patch which goes live at 11:00 AM PT / 7:00 PM GMT with the themed cosmetics expected to hit the shop soon after.
Some fans initially raised concerns about a possible region lock but early discussion across the community suggests it looks like a standard global event rollout. The video confirmed five featured heroes to receive skins:
- Mercy
- Kiriko
- Wuyang
- Lifeweaver
- Vendetta
They’ll be reimagined as characters from Project YoRHa, bringing 2B, 9S, A2, and more into the Overwatch universe through premium skins. Since the reveal was limited to a brief Short and not a full announcement, it’s still unclear how deep the collaboration goes beyond cosmetics, though themed challenges and extra items feel likely.
This collab adds to the impressive stretch of NieR Automata’s run which recently surpassed 10 million units sold. But 2026 isn’t just NieR’s year. Overwatch is also heading for its Nintendo Switch 2 launch slated for spring 2026.
