Ghost of Yotei Becomes Best-Selling First-Party PlayStation Game in Two Years
Ghost of Yotei, the long-anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, has finally launched, becoming the best-selling first-party title for PlayStation since Spider-Man 2 in 2023. The game released for the PS5 on October 2, 2025.
According to the Game Sales Data, and reported by The Game Business, Ghost of Yotei entered the European sales charts at number 2 for revenue and unit sales, only behind EA Sports FC 26.
The game’s instant success sees it become the best-selling first-party PlayStation game since Spider-Man 2 launched in October 2023, with its sales “in line” with its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first three days in 2020.
Sales Milestone and Popularity
The Ghost of Yotei’s sales over its opening weekend make it one of PlayStation’s most successful first-party titles and its best-selling new game of the last two years. In comparison, the fastest-selling PlayStation first-party title, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, sold 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours in 2023.
It’s early days sales put it past other critically-acclaimed PlayStation games such as Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2. Stellar Blade recently announced a sequel, and Helldivers 2 has become one of Sony’s best-selling games, reaching the top of the PC and Xbox charts after launching on those platforms.
