Ghost of Yōtei Sells 3.3 Million Copies on PS5 in First Month, Confirms Sony
Sony has officially confirmed that Sucker Punch Productions’ action-adventure game Ghost of Yōtei sold over 3.3 million copies on PlayStation 5 in its first month. This massive commercial milestone is comparable to its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, setting a new standard for the PS5 era.
Sony announced the Ghost of Yōtei sales milestone during its latest earnings call, revealing it had sold 3.3 million copies in its first 32 days from October 2 to November 2.
The latest figures suggest the game could outperform its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, which also had immediate success, selling 2.4 million copies in its first days and 5 million after four months.
Matching Ghost of Tsushima’s Legacy on PS5
The sales figure of 3.3 million for Ghost of Yōtei is particularly impressive when compared to Ghost of Tsushima. The latter was released for a larger audience on the PS4 in 2020, followed by a Director’s Cut for the PS5 in 2021. In contrast, Ghost of Yōtei is exclusively available on the PlayStation 5.
Sucker Punch’s latest success is not only on course to surpass Tsushima’s 5 million copies sold in its first month, but it’s also Sony’s best-selling first-party title on PS5 since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023.
Ghost of Yōtei: Critical Acclaim and Player Reception
Ghost of Yōtei has achieved commercial success largely due to its strong critical reception. The game has received a Metacritic score of 86, surpassing Ghost of Tsushima’s score of 83.
