Remedy Entertainment never plays it safe. Just when we got comfortable with the brutalist concrete corridors of the Oldest House, they decided to break the walls down.
Control was a mind-bending trip, but its sequel, officially titled Control Resonant, looks like it’s taking that weirdness to the streets.
The Hiss isn’t contained anymore. It’s loose in New York City, and things have gotten messy.

Manhattan is Broken: The New Nightmare
If you watched The Game Awards reveal, you saw the chaos. But thanks to an exclusive look by Game Informer, we now know exactly what’s going on.
The game picks up seven years after the first title. Jesse Faden? She’s gone. Missing.
The Bureau’s containment has failed. The Hiss has spilled out into Manhattan, turning the city into a “kaleidoscope of psychedelic nightmares.”
Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen explained that the setting draws inspiration from the bending realities of Inception or Spider-Man: No Way Home.
You aren’t playing as Jesse this time. You’re stepping into the shoes of her brother, Dylan Faden.
He’s awake from his coma, though the circumstances look suspicious. The trailer shows Jesse seemingly stabbing him with a strange object to wake him up. Now, it’s up to Dylan to save a city that doesn’t obey the laws of physics anymore.

RPG Mechanics: A Major Shift
The biggest surprise here isn’t the story; it’s the gameplay. Control was a tight Action-Adventure shooter.
Control Resonant is pivoting hard into Action-RPG territory. Remedy is changing the rhythm of the fight.
Instead of the Service Weapon’s ranged focus, Dylan wields something called the Apparent. It’s a shapeshifting melee tool that morphs to fit the situation.
Need quick strikes? It becomes dual blades. Need to crush armor? It shifts into a massive hammer.
Kasurinen promises this isn’t just a hack-and-slash; it’s about momentum and blending supernatural powers with close-quarters combat.
Here is what you need to know about the new structure:
- Genre: Action-RPG with “meaningful progression and real choices.”
- World Design: Open-ended, but not a traditional “Open World.” Think dense, warped environments with fast traversal.
- Builds: You can create distinct character builds to suit your playstyle.
Kasurinen put it simply: “Control was a great first stepping stone. Now, we’re ready to leap further.”
Verdict: Is Control Resonant Worth The Hype?
This is a bold move from Remedy. Shifting genres for a direct sequel is risky, especially when the gunplay in the first game was so satisfying. However, the idea of a melee-focused combat system in a reality-warping Manhattan sounds incredible on paper.
If you loved the atmosphere of the first game but wanted deeper RPG elements and character customization, this seems tailor-made for you. We just have to wait until 2026 to see if Dylan can handle the heat.
What do you think about the switch from Jesse to Dylan as the main protagonist?
