Borderlands 4 will feature a new slider that lets players adjust the volume or completely mute the lovable (or hateable) sidekick Claptrap. Gearbox’s upcoming FPS will launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on September 12, 2025.

Gearbox Software has revealed it has added a volume slider in the upcoming Borderlands 4 for Claptrap. Players will be able to adjust the lovable but annoying robot companion’s volume and even silence him when the game launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 12, 2025.
Love him or loathe him, Claptrap is an iconic character from Gearbox’s FPS series, appearing way back in the franchise’s first game in 2009. However, his ramblings can be annoying, and Gearbox has introduced the new feature for those who want more control of the talkative robot.

Why Claptrap Needed a Mute Button
Claptrap has long been a source of both comic relief and player fatigue, and has always been a love-it-or-hate-it character. Many see him as a staple within the franchise and wouldn’t consider it a Borderlands game without the robot’s hyperactive ramblings, whereas others find him simply irritating. The new feature allows users to decide whether to listen to him or not on their own terms.
Teasing fans with the feature, narrative director Sam Winkler revealed: “I wrote some lines just for this feature and it includes maybe the dumbest most niche reference to a certain terrible accent in a certain classic immersive sim.”
In a reply on X, Winkler responded to a user suggesting Gearbox “caved to Claptrap haters” by revealing he “pitched that you should be able to put him from 0% to 200% but I think the government said no.”

How the Feature Works in Borderlands 4
The new feature is found within the Borderlands 4 audio customization settings, where players can adjust other volumes such as combat voices.
With the new Claptrap audio slider, players can reduce or completely mute the character’s volume without it affecting other character dialogues or sounds.

What? why? Poor Clappy, if he is adorable T_T (ok I'm kidding, I understand some people may find him annoying but still an slider dedicated to only him was not necessary, ClapTrap IS Bordelands)
