Borderlands 4 is the latest game in the series, released in September 2025. But the developers aren’t finished with the game yet; throughout 2026, many new content updates and DLCs will be released. We have now received the roadmap showing all the major updates. This isn’t just about new story and Bounty Pack content, but also game improvements, endgame features, and quality-of-life updates.

The Borderlands 4 Roadmap for Post-Launch Content 2026

2K Games and Gearbox Software have released a roadmap for Borderlands 4 for 2026. It started on January 29th with an update that brought new content and a photo mode. Over time, more Bounty Packs and Story Packs will arrive, bringing new content, missions, regions, and Vault Hunters. Let’s go through the entire list:

Q1 2026:

  • Paid DLC Bounty Pack 2 Legend of the Stone Demon + Free content and Pearlescent rarity.
  • Major paid DLC. Story Pack 1 Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned

Q2 2026:

  • Free Raid Boss 2 content
  • Free Takedown content pack
  • Paid DLC Bounty Pack 3

Q4 2026:

  • Paid DLC Bounty Pack 4
  • Paid DLC Bounty Pack 5
  • Major paid DLC Story Pack 2

In addition, further free improvements such as performance, endgame, and balancing updates, bug fixes, and small updates will be released over time. Some free features will also accompany the major DLCs, such as new endgame activities, cross-save support, more time-limited events, and shared progress across different save files.

What the different DLC types mean

There is a difference between Bounty Packs and Story Packs. Bounty Packs are rather shorter DLCs with new missions, loot, enemies, and events. Story Packs are large story expansions with new areas and Vault Hunters. With this, Gearbox aims to provide long-term support and keep the game interesting even after more than a year.
