Back to the Dawn 1.0 launches today as a Game Pass day-one title. Now available on PC, console, and cloud for Ultimate and PC members.

The streak of day-one launches on Xbox Game Pass this month officially kicked off yesterday with the quirky horror-puppet shooter My Friendly Neighborhood. And today, the second one rolls in bringing a much darker, more desperate setting.

A prison full of corrupt guards, dangerous inmates, and one wrongly accused journalist. Yep, it’s time to plot your escape.

Back to the Dawn Exits Early Access And Joins Game Pass

If Animal Farm had a noir detective spin, you’d end up somewhere near Back to the Dawn. The game is a gritty prison-break RPG where you play as an animal journalist framed for a crime he didn’t commit. While you’ll try to break out of prison, the game itself has officially broken out of early access. As of July 18, version 1.0 is live and it arrives straight onto Xbox Game Pass as a day-one launch.

This marks the 12th title to hit Game Pass in July, continuing a strong month for subscribers. As a day-one release, Back to the Dawn is only available to PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate members for now. Those with the Standard tier will have to wait a few months before it’s added to their library (if it ever is).

For PC and Ultimate subscribers, though, it’s all systems go. You can play Back to the Dawn on PC, console, or even stream it through the cloud.

Back to the Dawn is a prison escape RPG set in a maximum-security facility ruled by gangs, secrets, and shifting alliances. Choose between two protagonists, Thomas, a journalist framed in a conspiracy, or Bob, an undercover agent on one last mission. Each has their own 20+ hour storyline full of mystery, danger, and moral choices. With over 100 handcrafted quests, multiple escape routes, 48 unique inmates, and deep character progression, your decisions shape the narrative and the outcome.
