What New Features Are Coming to The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past?

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past introduces a standalone story campaign featuring Geralt of Rivia alongside expanded Gwent card mechanics.

Co-developer Fool’s Theory leads production with CD Projekt RED, integrating new monster contracts, regional maps, and modern technical optimizations into the proprietary REDengine pipeline.

The expansion narrative takes place during Geralt’s earlier contract years. CD Projekt RED oversees narrative continuity, while Fool’s Theory handles core level design and quest scripting to ensure parity with the base game.

Will Songs of the Past Require a PC Upgrade?

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past requires Windows 11 on PC, officially ending compatibility for Windows 10 and older operating systems.

Console availability remains exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, discontinuing legacy support for older eighth-generation platforms to accommodate updated engine rendering features.

The development team updated direct storage pipelines and core renderer libraries, necessitating 64-bit Windows 11 architecture for shader management.

Final Thoughts on the 2027 Expansion Timeline

The 2027 release window provides CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory sufficient time to align mechanical updates with current-generation hardware capabilities.

Players intending to play the new story arc will require an active installation of the base title.
