Blizzard Removes LAN and Offline Play From Warcraft 3 Reforged
BlizzCon was packed with some incredible news but there was a big update that Blizzard did not include in their announcements. Considering the nature of the change, they had a good reason not to mention it.
Turns out and without explanation, Warcraft 3 Reforged now requires players to be online at all times, even in singleplayer. So effective immediately, an internet connection is now part of the experience, even for the parts of Warcraft 3 that have nothing to do with online services.
LAN parties have always been a core part of the Warcraft experience, so taking this feature out just does not make sense to fans who have been with the game since the beginning. It’s definitely an odd and an unwelcome change.
On top of that, this doesn’t do favors for Reforged which has always been unpopular to fans. Stripping away a major feature like this, on top of the already bad rep of online-only games, makes the remaster even less appealing.

Fortunately for those who always thought the original was superior to the remaster, both LAN support and offline play is still available via the Classic client. While the original can no longer be purchased separately, it is included with a Warcraft 3 Reforged purchase.
It is still a disappointing decision from Blizzard, particularly for a game with such a long history of local multiplayer. Hopefully, the newly released Forsaken Kingdom expansion can give Warcraft 3 Reforged something else for fans to appreciate, because removing LAN and offline play certainly isn’t going to win over the players who were already hesitant about the remaster.
