Wandering Sword Console Launch Pushed to 2027 for Full Multi-Platform Debut

The highly anticipated console release of Wandering Sword has received a massive and unexpected delay.

Originally scheduled to hit PlayStation 5 on May 28, the martial arts RPG will now launch on January 21, 2027. However, this extended wait brings a silver lining for the wider gaming community, as the title will now release simultaneously across all current platforms.

Why Was Wandering Sword Delayed to 2027?

The delay of Wandering Sword is a strategic shift by publishers Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Spiral Up Games. They are pivoting from a timed PS5 exclusive to a comprehensive multi-platform launch.

Instead of releasing solely on PS5 this month, the studio will use the additional development time to optimize the game for Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch family.

They are now targeting a unified release on January 21, 2027. This extra time ensures that the console iteration will launch in a highly polished state.

When the game finally arrives on consoles, it will be bundled as a complete package. Players will gain immediate access to all previously released downloadable content. This includes the Secrets of the Eastern Sea expansion, which introduces an entirely new adventure beyond the main storyline.

The game features over 75 unique locations spread across five diverse regions. Further expanded with the release of the DLC Secrets of the Eastern Sea on 19 June 2025. Utilizing Unreal Engine 4 to blend traditional pixel art with modern 3D lighting in a similar fashion to Square Enix HD-2D projects, starting with Octopath Traveler.

A major highlight of the game is its innovative combat system, which caters to different player preferences. Operating on a tiled board, the system allows players to seamlessly switch between classic turn-based tactical combat and a real-time action mode.

Relationships also play a crucial role in the overarching narrative. During the 20-hour campaign, players can recruit up to 14 unique martial artists, each offering distinct abilities in combat.

These choices, alongside various side quests, lead to multiple distinct endings. Bringing a high replay value when the game eventually hits consoles in 2027.
