Combat in Disgaea Mayhem abandons grid-based menus of the mainline games for direct, real-time control, allowing players to actively fight through hundreds of enemies. Players can instantly swap between fists, swords, spears, axes, bows, guns, and staffs during engagements.

Each weapon type features distinct engagement ranges and four unique special techniques. Bows and guns offer safe distance damage, while swords and axes focus on close-quarters crowd control against massive monster swarms.

Despite the genre shift, classic franchise progression systems remain intact. The game retains the iconic level 9,999 cap, Reincarnation, the Item World, and the Debate Assembly to ensure players can still achieve massive damage numbers.
