UBISOFT POSTPONES SERVER SHUTDOWNS FOR OLDER GAMES
Ubisoft’s plans to close the servers for some older games on September 1 have been delayed for a month.
In a blog post on the official Ubisoft website, the company says decommissioning online services for older games is “a necessity as the technology that drove those services becomes obsolete.”
Unfortunately, that means the following games will no longer have access to their online services:
Assassin’s Creed II
Assassin’s Creed III
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
Assassin’s Creed Revelations
Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD
Driver San Francisco
Far Cry 3
Ghost Recon Future Soldier
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Rayman Legends
Silent Hunter 5
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
ZombiU
Multiplayer for the above games will no longer work once the servers go offline, and some DLC will no longer work.
Additionally, Space Junkies, the online VR shooter on PC, will no longer be playable, as it was online only.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Anno 2070 will now continue to be playable as Ubisoft Mainz continues to work on an update to replace its old servers.
The servers for the above games will now shut down on October 1, apart from Space Junkies, which will see its servers turn off on September 1 as planned.
