Ubisoft just dropped a holiday surprise for PlayStation owners. While Massive Entertainment has spent years pouring content into The Division 2, they haven’t abandoned the game that started it all.
The original The Division just received a stealth update specifically for the PlayStation 5. If you own the next-gen console, the streets of New York now look and feel significantly smoother.
The Division 60 FPS Update on PS5
This update proves the studio still cares about its roots. Despite the sequel dominating the live-service space for over six years, a dedicated community remains active in the first game’s snowy Manhattan setting.
Massive Entertainment deployed this free patch to unlock 60 FPS performance on PS5. The studio confirmed the enhancement stating, “The Division is now available on PS5 with improved performance at 60 FPS.”
It is a straightforward performance bump rather than a full graphical overhaul. However, doubling the frame rate transforms the shooting mechanics, making cover-based combat feel modern and responsive.

Xbox Parity and The Division’s Future
For Xbox players wondering about their version, you aren’t missing out. The Xbox Series X|S received this specific performance boost years ago via FPS Boost. Sony’s console is finally catching up, meaning everyone now plays on equal footing.
This update bridges the gap while fans wait for what’s next. Ubisoft confirmed that The Division 3 is in development, alongside mobile entry The Division Resurgence.
With The Division 2 still getting updates and the original game receiving this polish, the franchise ecosystem is healthier than ever. It is a perfect time to revisit the Dark Zone.
In Conclusion: Is time to jump back to The Division?
If you skipped the original or haven’t played since launch, absolutely. The atmosphere of a snowy, collapsed New York remains unmatched, even by its sequel. With the new 60 FPS patch on PS5, the gunplay finally matches the visual fidelity. Since the game is frequently available for the price of a coffee, it offers incredible value for a solo or co-op campaign.
Will you be reinstalling to test out the frame rate, or are you waiting for The Division 3?

The Division 1 has earned a legendary status in my opinion. This update is really nice and could be worth coming back and replaying the campaign, I've always enjoyed the story - especially playing it during the pandemic.
