The Adventures of Elliot: A New Chapter in Square Enix’s HD-2D Series

Among the surprises that made the biggest splash at the late-July Nintendo Direct, we had Square Enix. Not only with the announcement and release date of Octopath Traveler 0, but also the reveal of The Adventures of Elliot. A new game from the team that uses the HD-2D style but instead offers an action RPG as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Taking us to the fantasy world of Philabieldia, full of monsters where the Kingdom of Huther is the only bastion of humanity. We’ll follow the adventurer Elliot and the fairy, and new companion, Fae, as they uncover mysterious ruins. A journey packed with challenges and action across various locations. And as a surprise, a playable Demo is also available.

The Adventures of Elliot: Fan First Impressions from the Demo

Initial fan impressions have been positive, though they drew a strong comparison to the classic installments of the famous The Legend of Zelda series. Both for its visual and gameplay style, and because of Fae. A fairy clearly inspired by Link’s fairy companions. But those who tried the Demo quickly realized that The Adventures of Elliot is a tribute to the entire ’90s action RPG genre.

It offers a classic fantasy adventure, but one that will surely hide some interesting twists later on. With a whopping 7 weapons at our disposal, as well as various upgrades. Not to mention the ability to control Elliot and Fae separately, not just for puzzles but also for combat. Including a 2-player local co-op mode.
