Unknown Worlds’ latest dev vlog landed at the perfect time. In it, the team confirmed that Subnautica 2 will feature multiplayer, allowing players to either start a fresh co-op save or invite friends directly into their single-player worlds. Up to four players can explore the alien ocean together, build elaborate bases, and face the planet’s dangers side by side.
Even better, the game will support cross-platform play. That means no worrying about who owns which system as friends can play together regardless of platform. For a series that originally thrived on isolation and solo survival, this is a major evolution.
Design lead Anthony Gallegos reassured longtime fans that Subnautica 2 will continue to offer a dedicated single-player experience, staying true to the tone and structure that defined the original game. The sense of immersion and atmospheric depth remains a core pillar of the sequel.
No specific release date has been shared yet but Subnautica 2 is planned for early access launch in 2026 on PC and Xbox.
In other Subnautica news, Unknown Worlds announced that Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 17. Both titles have received graphical improvements tailored for the new console, giving players another opportunity to dive back in while waiting for the sequel.
