The Subnautica 2 delay drama gets thicker. After the leadership fallout, the delay, and then the lawsuit, now comes a dev document showing Subnautica 2’s current state. There’s no real spoilers to it but still proceed with caution if you want to be surprised at launch, whether good or bad, since the document as it stands, is confirmed by Krafton to be real.

A leaked dev document was posted on an unofficial Subnautica 2 subreddit showing the game’s current state during a May 2025 milestone update. Considering that this was just two months ago and that the target early access launch was sometime this year, it clearly shows where the “dispute” is between the former execs and the publisher.
Based on the document, the game is indeed playable on early access. And if you played the first game when it initially launched, you’ll understand why the former studio heads believe that it was ready. It is, at the end of the day, their game.
But from the publisher’s point of view, which some gamers pointed out too, having paid $500M, you’d expect more than the early access state of the first game when it was released. Unlike it which thrived on indie charm and community-driven improvements, the sequel is now operating under big-budget scrutiny. On top of that, there was a clear direction and expectations for the milestones which weren’t met.
