In a short announcement, Sony confirmed that the price of the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal will increase starting April 2, 2026. Yes, next week.

Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, shared that ongoing pressures in the global economy made this step necessary. The goal, she emphasized, is to ensure that Sony can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences for players worldwide.

In the United States, the standard PS5 will now retail for $649.99, the PS5 Digital Edition for $599.99, and the PS5 Pro for $899.99. The PlayStation Portal remote player will see its price go up to $249.99. Across the U.K., Europe, and Japan, similar adjustments are being implemented, reflecting a global approach to address rising production and logistics costs.

   

Sony’s note makes it clear that this isn’t a decision taken lightly. It’s about balancing production costs while maintaining the kind of performance, features, and gaming experiences users have come to expect.

It’s also a moment to reflect on the bigger picture that rising prices aren’t limited to consoles alone. Accessories, peripherals, and even game prices are being affected by broader economic shifts.
