Ruffy and the Riverside is a colorful platformer developed by the Zockrates team Laboratories UG. A German indie development team making its debut, along with the publisher Phiphen Games, with Ruffy. Announced in March 2021, it immediately sparked a lot of interest.

Platformer adventure with a unique style combining a 3D world inspired by the classics with 2D sprites. Follow the adorable bear Ruffy on an adventure through the Riverside kingdom to foil the plans of the evil Groll. Ruffy and the Riverside – Available Today

After the announcement of the release date in March, today marks the official launch of Ruffy and the Riverside. The colorful platformer from the Zockrates Laboratories UG team. With the game available today, on June 26, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The launch has been celebrated with the Announcement Trailer showing us the colorful Riverside kingdom, as we follow Ruffy the Bear on a great adventure. Using his SWAP power that allows us to change the world and overcome obstacles. With many cute characters to meet and challenges ahead.

Ruffy and the Riverside: Gameplay and Main Features

Today marks the big debut of the title from Zockrates Laboratories UG. An exciting platformer created in collaboration with FFF Bayern and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWE). Also the first title published by the Phiphen Games team. With a colorful adventure paying homage to 90s 3D platformer classics, featuring:

• Story: With the return of the evil Groll, who plans to destroy the World Core, it’s up to Ruffy to save the Riverside kingdom. Encountering many characters with their own stories while trying to stop Groll’s plans.

• Unique Gameplay: A unique gameplay thanks to the SWAP power. Allowing Ruffy to change the world’s textures, overcoming obstacles and dangers.

• Open World: The Riverside kingdom is freely explorable. With numerous side missions, objectives, and secrets to uncover across 7 different regions.

All this accompanied by a graphic style blending a 3D world with 2D sprites, reminiscent of a mix between Paper Mario and Banjo Kazooie. Plus, there are many puzzles and even 2D levels to explore in the world. Paul Gale congratulated the Zockrates Laboratories team on the launch.
