Just in the last few days, the serial leaker Dusk Golem returns to the spotlight on Twitter (X) with fresh juicy information regarding Resident Evil 9, previously mentioned by the same source. Indeed, the renowned leaker is back discussing the alleged release date of Resident Evil 9, after previously mentioning its delay by Capcom due to some internal complications. Additionally, apart from the release date, it seems that from his sources, he managed to gather some news regarding the development of the new chapter in the Resident Evil series.
According to recent tweets on 3rd May by Dusk Golem, there are new updates regarding the 9th installment of the famous zombie-based survival series, Resident Evil. Not only has the leaker announced a release window but also some updates regarding the development of the chapter itself. He mentions how the development of Resident Evil 9 began as early as 2018 under the title Resident Evil 8, only to be postponed and replaced by Village and handed over to another team.
What particularly stands out is the leaker’s claim that the 9th installment is the most ambitious of the series with a substantial development budget, not to mention the development time compared to any other Resident Evil. Rumors are further fueled by previous tweets in March where he states that Resident Evil 9 runs on the Rex Engine, Capcom’s new iteration of the graphical engine for Resident Evil announced in October 2023. The Rex Engine also referred to as the “Reach for the Moon Engine,” signifying the advancements and technologies behind the new graphical engine. And it seems that the ninth chapter intends to employ the open-world formula.
Certainly, a very ambitious title if the rumors are to be believed. However, it’s unclear whether Resident Evil 9 will continue the trend starting from Resident Evil VII of using the first person, which is certainly a novelty but also a significant criticism brought to the series. Or whether it will return to the third person, especially in light of the excellent positive response received by the Remakes, particularly Resident Evil 4 from 2023.
Regarding the release date, the leaker states that despite the possible delay hinted by previous leaks, Resident Evil 9 is reportedly ready to be released by Capcom as early as January 2025. This anticipates a possible announcement in the months to come, thanks also to various conferences and shows scheduled for the Summer period, and also the Tokyo Game Show 2024 scheduled for the 26th September 2024. In short, all that’s left is to wait and hope for news soon.
