CD Projekt RED Confirms: A New The Witcher Trilogy in Six Years
The future of the Witcher saga is becoming clearer, and it promises to be intense! During a recent financial results presentation, Michal Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt RED, officially confirmed the release plan.
The long-awaited trilogy will be launched over a period of just six years. While The Witcher 4 (codenamed “Polaris”) might not be scheduled for 2026, the following installments are set to follow at a speed unprecedented for the studio.
Unreal Engine 5: The Development Turbo
How can CDPR promise such a pace? The secret lies in the game engine: Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). The studio is betting everything on this technology to drastically reduce development times. The goal is clear: to ensure better technical stability from the start, which should avoid the chaotic launches of the past.
“We have been using UE5 for The Witcher 4 for four years now, and we are very satisfied with the results,” explained the co-CEO.
CD Projekt RED is collaborating very closely with Epic Games to adapt the engine. They are working hand in hand to ensure that UE5 can handle the immensity of the Witcher universe. The work done has already been partially revealed. “I think you could see part of it for yourself during our tech demo presented at Unreal Fest a few months ago,” added Nowakowski.
We’re extremely humbled and honored that The Witcher 4 has been nominated for “Most Anticipated Game” at The Game Awards 2025!

The Polaris Team (The Witcher 4): 450 Developers at Work
The Witcher 4 project is not being taken lightly. To date, nearly 450 developers are working on the game! This is an impressive figure that shows the absolute priority given to this new episode.
Despite this huge mobilization, do not expect any big announcements at The Game Awards 2025. It’s a strong signal: CDPR prefers caution over media haste. The studio has also recently strengthened its ranks with confirmed talents. For example, the team welcomed: Karel Kolmann (formerly of Warhorse Studios) joined the team as Senior Quest Designer.
Towards The Witcher 5 and 6: A Sustained Pace
The six-year ambition is the keystone of this strategy. After The Witcher 4, the idea is to follow up quickly with TW5 and TW6. “Our plan is still to launch the complete trilogy over a six-year period. This would mean that we plan a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6, etc.” CD Projekt RED relies on several pillars to achieve this:
- Optimized organization.
- Robust technical tools (thanks to UE5).
- A clear long-term vision.
The goal is simple: never reproduce the errors of the Cyberpunk 2077 launch. The appointment is set: The Witcher IV will lead the way in 2027, with a sequel that promises to be faster than ever in the studio’s history.
In Conclusion: A new Trilogy under Unreal Engine 5
CD Projekt RED has worked double time to not only offer us a new The Witcher but a whole new trilogy in a record time thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The studio seems to have learned from the past and promises a stable future filled with adventures for fans of The Witcher saga.
