[UPDATE: It’s Back] New GTA Trilogy PC Download Missing; Servers Go on Maintenance

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition launched 11.11, but where is the PC download button, and why is Rockstar performing server maintenance?

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition can now be purchased on PC via the Rockstar Store as of the late hours of November 14th.

The Rockstar Launcher is finally back online after being unavailable for hours. What’s still missing is the option to download GTA Trilogy – Definitive Edition on PC.

In an update on the Rockstar Games Customer Support, Rockstar admitted that they indeed pulled the game’s PC version from stores:

“The Rockstar Games Launcher is now back online. However, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will remain unavailable to play or purchase as we work to remove some data files that were unintentionally included in the new versions of these games. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to have the correct versions of the games up and running for everyone as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, a player did some digging into the game’s files and found out all music in the game are in Ogg Vorbis format, the basic audio codec of Unreal Engine 4. What’s strange is that there are music that should have been removed from the game because of legal issues but were still included.

Some players also came across a script for managing gameplay and missions — a treasure trove for modders out there.

Players are also unhappy that the trilogy’s Definitive Edition has already been cracked, which means pirated copies are already out there, and is already being played unlike those who shelled out money and bought the game legally.

For some reason, the PC download button is missing from the Rockstar Store, and Rockstar Support announced on Twitter that their servers are under maintenance. These come just when GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition has launched.

It seems the missing PC download for GTA Trilogy is happening worldwide, and all Microsoft store links appear to be broken. If you previously added it to your shopping cart, it won’t show when you visit your cart.

An email from Rockstar’s e-mail support cited the following reasons for the server maintenance:

Authentication: When a Rockstar game is launched, authentication must take place successfully, unless you have already wisely switched to offline mode beforehand. As authentication is currently not possible, games will fail to launch.

Downloads: Unfortunately, you probably can’t even at least start downloading the trilogy or other titles like GTA Online or Red Dead Redemption 2 at the moment. So if you had hoped to at least shovel the game files onto your hard drive, you are also doomed to wait.

Cloud service: Even if you could play, the next problem might not be far away. Because if you rely on the convenient cloud service for your game saves, you wouldn’t have access to your files at the moment either.

Store: At least this is good news, at least for your wallet. Your wallet can breathe a sigh of relief because you can’t buy anything in the Rockstar Store anyway. Your account will thank you!
