Speaking to Rolling Stone, Mario Kart World producer Kosuke Yabuki explained the process of how the team develops tracks, revealing that “we try to think of 150cc as being the standard. We try to use 150cc to experience these newly designed courses first and make sure that they work at that engine size.”
When developing the game, the team focused on 150cc and worked backward. Although there is no 200cc mode, this approach guarantees that each difficulty level at launch provides a fair and challenging experience for players of all skill levels.
Will 200cc Mode Be Added Later?
It’s not all doom and gloom for those hoping to see a 200cc mode. Yabuki told Rolling Stone that he can’t “say just yet” whether engine sizes larger than 150cc will be added at a later date.
The 200cc mode is a relatively new feature to the Mario Kart series, with the mode added to Mario Kart 8 after the game’s launch as a free update. Yabuki acknowledges fans want 200cc, adding more hope it will come in the future, saying: “Some players are really happy with the addition of high difficulty modes like this.”
