Jelly Troops (JT) is the latest RTS game in development by the Nukenin team. This Japanese indie game development team was founded in 2018 by Ken Watanabe, a former Nintendo employee who worked as a software programmer from 2005 to 2018. He was specifically behind some Pikmin spin-off titles and Splatoon was the last game he contributed to.
JT actually started as an idea for a Pikmin PvP spin-off back in 2013-2014, but Nintendo rejected it. So, Watanabe decided to revisit the idea as the team’s second title, announcing its arrival on PC and Switch in 2025. Jelly Troops – Launch Date Confirmed!
Officially announced in July 2024, the Nukenin team is finally bringing some exciting new updates about Jelly Troops. On 8 July 2025, they confirmed that their colorful slime-themed RTS will debut on 17 September 2025. It’s coming to Steam and Nintendo Switch, just as announced back in March.
They’ve also released a new trailer alongside the announcement, showcasing a colorful and fun RTS in a Capture the Flag style. You’ll need to lead your Slimes to steal the enemy’s flag. This PvP strategy game lets you multiply your slimes, cast spells, and maneuver your slimes to fit any situation.
Jelly Troops: What it Offers & Demo Available
JT aims to be an RTS experience in its most classic form. It offers simple gameplay but with a strong emphasis on logic and strategy. The right balance between reactivity and strategy will lead to victory, offering:
- CTF-style Matches: Experience PvP where you’ll face off against other players in best-of-3 matches. The round winner is the one who successfully captures the enemy’s flag.
- Command Your Slimes: You’ll have slimes at your disposal. You can multiply them by feeding them Magic Fruits, leading them against enemy slimes, or using them to steal the flag.
- Map Control: Map control is a huge part of the game. Use walls not just to block opponents but also to redirect them to specific areas. Beware of Gargantuan Guardians that can annihilate slimes and players on sight.
- Power-Ups: Find various power-ups on the map, including traps and powerful spells to stop opponents. There are also boosts and illusions to bypass obstacles and enemy slimes undisturbed.
You can also challenge your friends in local split-screen, or face off against other players from around the world. You can already try the Demo on Steam to learn more about the gameplay. The Nukenin team and publisher Phoenixx Inc. will be present at BitSummit the 13th in Japan from 18 to 20 July.
Hi #PitchYaGame! Over 10 years ago, I pitched a PvP spinoff for Pikmin inside Nintendo. It never took off. So now, I’ve built it myself.

In Conclusion
Jelly Troops looks like an interesting PvP RTS. It combines a Capture the Flag style experience where you guide slimes across the map, facing not only enemy troops but also traps and Gargantuan Guardians. The game is set to debut on 17 September 2025 on PC and Nintendo Switch. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
