Infection Free Zone is a city-builder strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a deadly infection that has turned most of the population into aggressive and fast-moving monsters. You take charge of a group of survivors and must establish a new safe haven called an “Infection Free Zone”.

The infected are a fast, aggressive, and deadly enemy. So choosing your location is important. You will need to build walls, gates, and towers to keep the infected at bay. You will also need to train the other survivors to fight and scavenge for resources.

One of the unique features of Infection Free Zone is its ability to adapt existing buildings to new needs like converting a fire station into a hospital or a library into a workshop. This allows you to make the most of the resources that are available to you and to create a settlement that is unique to your playstyle.




Infection Free Zone Release Date

After a couple of years of development, a prologue, hundreds of feedback, and a good amount of updates and fixes, Infection Free Zone is finally coming to Early Access on April 11, 2024. And to celebrate the release, the game will be available with a 10% launch discount.

So what can you expect with the early access version? A lot compared to the prologue, of course. But the main ones are:


  • Any city available in the world is available as the game uses real-world cities using OpenStreetMap data
  • Save system
  • Raider and Military story events
  • Alpha Infected, a new type of enemy
  • Biome system overhaul
  • Weather system overhaul
  • New weapons, buildings, and research options; and,
  • Mood System

“Any city” is great as anyone from around the world can try the game exactly where they are located but a good starting point (to enjoy the game fully) would be nice. That’s why the devs and the community of supporters have carefully selected recommended cities that should provide you with interesting gameplay.

The list includes Peschiera Italy, Dijon France, Cambridge UK, Templin Germany, Oakland USA, and Jinhua China. The full list that has 11 cities is published in the game’s Steam page.

Since Infection Free Zone is still in Early Access, there are features that are still in development. Among the list, the devs have prioritized these for post-EA launch:


  • Full story and all the faction events
  • Map elevation
  • Explosives and demolish feature
  • Infected animals other than dogs
  • Laws System

It is uncertain how long we should wait for the Infection Free Zone full release but considering the amount of content and gameplay we already have, the wait shouldn’t be all that bad.

Where to play Infection Free Zone for free?

Although Infection Free Zone was already a much-awaited game from the get-go, especially for fans of the genre, the amount of momentum and anticipation for the game’s release would not have been possible without the launch of its prologue.

And the prologue lives! As per devs, Infection Free Zone Prologue will remain for everyone to download on Steam.

The prologue, which was released in October of last year, also got some updates. But unfortunately, unlimited play isn’t part of it. They did say that this is so it’s also fair for their supporters who have financially backed the game, which is completely reasonable. You’d be glad to know though that the Save System is in effect.

The planned DLCs for the prologue have also not materialized yet but some supporter packs are available in the game’s official website.
