Hollow Knight: Silksong is the new installment in the famous 2D metroidvania series by Team Cherry. The Australian indie development team debuted with HK on 24 February 2017 . Delivering an incredible hand-drawn metroidvania with great attention to detail and an interesting game world. Not to mention high replayability and a major gameplay challenge.
Acclaimed by critics and gamers alike, it received various nominations and even won some awards. With the first chapter having an interesting development history, as a game’s concept born in 2013 with Hungry Knight for the Ludum Dare game jam. This kicked off the Kickstarter campaign in 2014. From what we know, Team Cherry had been already working on Silksong since at least 2018. Initially as an expansion, but then announced in 2019 as a sequel with the first trailer on 14 February 2019. Bringing a first demo to E3 that same year. With various updates over the years but with the team not yet ready for launch.
Finally revealing on 02 April 2025 during the Direct dedicated to Nintendo Switch 2 a launch for 2025. An ever-growing presence, like at the Xbox Games Showcase on 08 June for the presentation of the Xbox Rog Ally. Hollow Knight: Silksong – Hornet’s Adventure
An adventure that, as mentioned, will star the famous Hornet. Exploring the fallen kingdom of Hallownest after she is mysteriously captured and transported there. With the ex-princess having to explore and climb the remains of the kingdom to find a way out. But also discovering the mysteries that somehow tie her to Hallownest’s past.
With Hornet bringing a revamped gameplay, making use of various tools instead of the Knight’s Charms. But also improved agility thanks to her acrobatic skills. Not to mention the Quest System complete with various side missions. With a challenge that features over 200 new enemies and over 40 bosses in an even vaster game world.
Hollow Knight: Silksong – Platforms, Game Pass, and Free Copies
The game will therefore launch on all major gaming platforms. A particularly appreciated choice that will allow players to tackle the new chapter on their favorite platform. More specifically on:
- PC: Steam, GOG, Microsoft Store
- Console: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

The Silksong Effect: The Postponement of Other Games
The announcement of Silksong’s launch date has thrilled countless fans, but it has also had a strong impact on the entire video game industry. Being one of the most anticipated titles in recent years, and potentially the most anticipated after GTA VI. An indie with a major presence, capable of eclipsing some games at launch.
