We finally got some more news on Ninja Theory’s upcoming Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and with the release coming fast, studio head Dom Matthews dropped some insight into what we can expect during the Xbox Developer_Direct last week.
In a blog post for Xbox Developer_Direct 2024, Ninja Theory’s Dom Matthews says just as with the first game, “Hellblade II will be a game crafted from the heart – a game similar in length to the first Hellblade.”
That means a game roughly six hours in length, and in that time you’ll experience Senua’s world as she explores a brutal 10th Century Iceland where her she will story will be told through mind-twisting puzzles and visceral combat.
Just like the first game, Hellblade 2 is an narrative-led experience with a focus on cinematic immersion. And now a part of Xbox Game Studios, Matthews believes Ninja Theory is in the perfect position to deliver on their ambition to “craft life-changing art with game changing tech.”
When Ninja Theory developed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, they were an independent team of fewer than 20 people. In 2018, Microsoft Studios acquired Ninja Theory, and since then, the team has scaled up, allowing for a more expressive and immersive experience.
With more resources, Hellblade 2 is set to feature more in-depth combat, more varied enemies, and improved audio that will intensify the whispers and other psychological struggles that Senua is forced to deal with in her day-to-day life.
Developed with Unreal Engine 5, the landscapes of Hellbalde 2 look stunning, with the development team going all-out on creating an unforgettable journey with breathtaking visuals. As Ninja Theory founder Tameem Antoniadas said. Hellblade 2 will make Hellblade 1 “look like an indie game.”
The upcoming action-adventure game will release on May 21, 2024, on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
