Ghost Recon and The Division 3 Impacted by Red Storm Shutdown

Red Storm Entertainment, the house that Tom Clancy built, is officially pivoting away from game development. While recent layoffs are a somber reality, the sheer scale of the projects they left behind is staggering.

Ghost Recon and The Division 3 Impacted by Red Storm Shutdown

For over 30 years, the name Red Storm has been synonymous with franchises like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. However, a major internal shift at Ubisoft, after layoffs were announced on March 19, has seen its gaming division closed.

This move, which resulted in 105 immediate layoffs, marks a definitive end to the studio’s journey as a primary developer.

Yet, the most surprising part of this restructuring isn’t just the job losses, but the massive list of 10 different high-profile projects the team was actively supporting until the very moment the plug was pulled.

The 10 Projects Left in the Wake?

According to a detailed report from Insider Gaming, Red Storm wasn’t just sitting idle before this restructuring. The studio was a load-bearing pillar for Ubisoft, providing critical support for a massive slate of upcoming and live titles.

The list includes Project OVR (the next mainline Ghost Recon), early concept work for The Division 3, and seasonal content for Rainbow Six Siege.

Other notable titles in the mix were Beyond Good & Evil 2 and a mysterious, unannounced project. With the studio exiting the development space, these projects now face a redistribution of resources across Ubisoft’s global network.

From Creators to Code Support?

This shift isn’t an isolated incident. Ubisoft is moving toward a “Creative Houses” model, centralizing its lead development in major hubs while turning satellite offices into specialized service centers. For Red Storm, this means a total transition into Snowdrop engine optimization and general IT services.

The move is a central piece of Ubisoft’s broader €200 million cost-saving initiative. By stripping away the cost of running full-scale development at every location, the publisher aims to streamline its massive overhead.

End of a Tactical Era?

This restructuring signals a definitive end to a specific era of gaming history. Red Storm provided the DNA for the modern tactical shooter.

The industry is watching closely to see if this consolidation preserves the quality of heavyweights like Ghost Recon or if the loss of specialized studio culture leads to a more homogenized library.
