Team17 brings big news for fans of the Worms series, as the team announces the arrival of Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition. A revamped edition of the classic 1999 game to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Worms Armageddon, the third installment in the series. With Team17 announcing the release date as well as the platforms it will be available on.

The news comes directly from Team17, which in collaboration with Digital Eclipse, announces a remastered version of Worms Armageddon with the Anniversary Edition. Remastering the 1999 title to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. Bringing not only visual improvements but also numerous additions that will surely appeal to fans of the series. Worms Armageddon, considered by many to be one of the most fun entries in the series. Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition is set for release on 26th September 2024.


Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition – Features and Platforms

The team showcases all the new features of the new Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition with the new trailer. Features include:

  • Modern revamp: a new UI, support for modern resolutions, visual filters, HD modes, and other graphical options.
  • Worms Armageddon for Game Boy Color included
  • New Game Save system
  • Museum with series history and exclusive interviews with the developers about the series
  • Trophies and Achievements, and native controller support
  • Ability to play multiplayer with up to 6 players and cross-generational multiplayer for the platform

Promising that fans of the series will be able to try this new edition on 26th September on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.


Fan Reaction to Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition and Savings on PC

From the start, the news was met with some doubts by fans, due to the lack of mention of a PC version. Indeed, Team17 has stated that this version will only be available on consoles, both digitally and in physical editions. The reason seems to be related to not wanting to sell two editions of Worms Armageddon on Valve’s store. Although in the past, many publishers have instead decided to bring remasters and upgrades to PC as well, replacing the old version or making it available with the Remaster. This news is certainly not well received, given the large portion of players who still play the 1999 classic on PC thanks to various mods created by the community. However, it remains to be seen if Team17 intends to backtrack or perhaps has a surprise in store for the 30th Anniversary of the series in 2025.
