Gamescom 2025 – All Major Announcements from ONL
On August 19, 2025, Gamescom ONL (Opening Night Live) kicked off Gamescom, the largest gaming convention in Europe, featuring more than 1,500 exhibitors from over 72 countries. As every year, this convention takes place in Cologne, Germany, and offers developers the opportunity to showcase their games across various halls.
Gamescom ONL 2025 was the grand opening of the event and brought us numerous world premieres, updates, and more. The ONL was hosted by Geoff Keighley alongside Sjokz. Now let’s dive right into the highlights of the show.
The Biggest Highlights of the Show
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
The show kicked off with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The game is set in the year 2035 and features robots, wingsuits, giants, zombies, arcade mode, and much more. A supernatural force threatens humanity, and unlike previous CoD games, you can now play the campaign solo or with up to 4 players. The story revolves around themes of identity, memories, and consequences, as you take the role of humanity’s last line of defense.
The scenery changes frequently, offering plenty of variety. Some missions take place in sprawling cities, while others have you climbing rooftops in Japan. The game includes both stealth sections and high-intensity action phases. Finally, there’s an endgame in the form of a PvE mode, where you can explore the entire map and combine everything you learned throughout the missions. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 releases on November 14, 2025.
Resident Evil Requiem
We also got more details about Resident Evil Requiem. The spotlight was on the main character Grace Ashcroft and how her story began. Grace and her mother receive a mysterious phone call at their home, right before the lights go out, forcing them to flee. During their escape, an innocent person dies, which heavily impacts Grace, but nothing compares to the death of her mother at the end of the trailer. Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026, and visitors at Gamescom can try the game for the first time at Capcom’s booth.
Silent Hill f
Next up was Silent Hill f. At Gamescom ONL, a brand-new story trailer was revealed along with the announcement of the game’s English voice actress. The character Hinako will be voiced in English by Suzie Yeung. The trailer showcased more of the game’s combat techniques, as well as its environments and enemies, all inspired by Japanese folklore. Silent Hill f launches on September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Early on, we also heard more about Hollow Knight: Silksong. This title holds the record for the most wishlisted game on Steam, despite being an indie project. Today we saw more gameplay footage and received confirmation that the game will definitely launch in 2025. On Thursday, August 21, Team Cherry will reveal further details on their YouTube channel.
Final Fantasy XIV x Monster Hunter Wilds
A crossover between two huge Japanese franchises was also announced: Final Fantasy XIV Online together with Monster Hunter Wilds. In Monster Hunter, players will be able to ride Chocobos and fight Omega Planets. In Final Fantasy XIV, new monster raids will be available to complete. This crossover is set to launch in late September.
Fallout Season 2
For the Amazon Prime series Fallout, more details about the second season were revealed. Today we got a surprising teaser trailer showing Lucy and the ghoul Cooper Howard crossing New Vegas together. We also see an unexpected encounter with a blue-eyed Deathclaw. Fallout Season 2
will premiere on December 17, 2025.
Blockbusters with Fresh Content
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
There were also exciting announcements for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This game in the Indiana Jones universe achieved major success and is now getting new content. First up is the new story DLC called The Order of Giants. A fresh gameplay trailer was shown today. This DLC will be available on September 4, 2025. In addition, The Great Circle will also arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui
At the end of gamescom ONL, we got another world premiere: Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Similar to Black Myth Wukong, but with a different protagonist. The game is set in Japanese mythology and features giant creatures such as a towering lion, ogres, and much more. Zhong Kui’s special ability allows him to travel between Earth and Hell.
World of Warcraft: Midnight
Another announcement today was the new World of Warcraft DLC Midnight. An epic cinematic trailer was revealed, along with details about the new housing feature. The DLC is set to release on June 30, 2026. The story focuses on the Sunwell, which veteran players will surely recognize.
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4
For the first time in many years, we’re finally getting a new Dawn of War game. It was unveiled today with a stunning CGI trailer. The game marks a return to the series’ classic RTS roots with intense battles, base-building, and brutal warfare. A PC release is planned for 2026, though no exact date has been given yet.
Lords of the Fallen 2
Another big reveal today was Lords of the Fallen 2. The game was showcased at ONL with an impressive CGI trailer. It depicted a dark world beyond the boundaries of life and death. The game is set 100 years after the events of the first title and promises to be bloodier, faster, and more brutal. Expect plenty of new bosses as well. Actual gameplay will be shown later this year.
Ghost of Yotei
At gamescom ONL, we also got a new trailer for Ghost of Yotei. It showcased new gameplay scenes highlighting the dark world of Hokkaido and the revenge journey of protagonist Atsu. In addition, the free “Legends” multiplayer DLC was announced, set to release in 2026. It will be free for all owners of the main game.
