Far Cry 6 Reviews: What Gamers Think
Far Cry 6 is the 6th installment in the long-running Far Cry series, and it launched on October 7, 2021 for PC and consoles. Days after its release, let’s see what gamers and critics thought about the game. Here we’ve summarized reviews from different sources to help you see what the game does have in store.
As of this post, Far Cry 6 has received a Strong rating in OpenCritic, while on Metacritic, its PC version received a Metascore of 76 which translates to Generally Favorable Reviews.
THE GOOD
Majority of reviews praise Far Cry 6’s overall gameplay experience, specifically how it blends its classic gameplay elements with new ideas. The weapons and gear also received positive reviews, with Justin Prinsloo from Cubed3 saying it made the game “compellingly fun.” The game’s story, especially the story behind antagonist Antón Castillo, is one of its strong points.
Another review from NoobFeed also cited its “strong performances, impressive visuals, and incredible cutscenes” as its “saving grace.” The game’s setting, Yara, is also described as “super lush and wonderful to explore” by PC Gamer’s Lauren Aitken.
Eric Hall from New Game Network also mentioned that how Ubisoft added a “real protagonist” as well as “extensive customization” to the game are “welcome changes,” adding that these are improvements from the previous installment. The game’s characters have also received praise, with GameGrin saying they are “brilliant… as is the work put into bringing them to life.”
THE BAD
Of course, you can’t please everybody, and Far Cry 6 has its share of bad reviews. The most mentioned of all is how Ubisoft used the same Far Cry element in Far Cry 6, and if you’ve played the previous games, you’ll find this one repetitive and old.
Worthplaying said in its review: “…many of the gameplay elements in this new game are awfully like the versions that were first established in Far Cry 3 and reused with minimal changes in every subsequent game. There’s certainly more than enough content to validate the game as its own, full entry into the series. I wish for a future Far Cry entry that I can play without being able to pick out which things are exactly the same as the previous title.”
Stevivor also said that “everything in Far Cry 6 feels too safe.”
